Title: “What’s In Your Well?”
I was sitting here on the couch browsing through various FaceBook posts and ran across a
video clip of Tyler Perry’s first commencement speech at Tuskegee University. It was an
incredibly moving and uplifting speech and of all of the things he said, one phrase stuck in
my spirit. He said, “Whatever comes up in the bucket was already in the well.” It means,
whatever people see you produce can only come from what you already had in your
deepest places.
He began to share with the graduating class his personal story from brokenness and being
homeless, to literally being responsible for making more black millionaires in the
entertainment industry than any other individual before him. He talked about how he
began doing things not only on purpose, but with purpose, and once his intent shifted
from making money to making life better for others, the wealth just started pouring in.
In ministry you and I have the obligation to impact lives in ways that not only will lift
them, but ways that will better them. The sacrifice that our Savior made for humanity is the
greatest gift of love and sacrifice the world has ever known. We have some understanding
of just how incredible life is with Christ, but we cannot simply rejoice in what He’s done
for us, we must make sure that all men get a chance to know that love as well. The depth
of what we have to give can only come from a place where there is plenty to draw from.
Don’t waste time complaining over petty things and temporary obstructions. Life is to short
and time is to valuable to become negative or adversely emotional about something that
you can not control or change. You can’t spend good time and effort trying to defend your
name to those who don’t believe in you or those who don’t appreciate your dreams,
instead you should focus all of your effort and ability in helping someone find a reason to
dream. You owe it to God to give of yourself and help someone reach their full potential,
but first you have to have something of great value to give.
I challenge you today, as soon as possible, to go out of your way to bless someone with
words and deeds that totally lift them and propel them to a better place. Whatever’s
happening in your life is within God’s ability to pull you through it and I’m convinced that
not only will you come through it – you’ll come through as pure gold. So go deep into
your well of favor and pull up buckets of blessings for somebody else. When you do it for
the least of these my brothers, Jesus said you’ve also done it unto Him. The time is now
and the need is great! Let’s make a difference family. Let’s make a difference!
EVERYTHING WE DO MOVING FORWARD WILL BE INTENTIONAL AND DRIVEN WITH
PURPOSE TO REPRESENT THE KINGDOM OF GOD IN THE BEST POSSIBLE LIGHT!
NOTHING WILL BE DONE WITH ENERGY LESS THAN OUR BEST AND EFFORT BELOW
OUR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL.
OUR SERVICE IS LOCAL, BUT OUR REACH IS GLOBAL – SO WE CANNOT REDUCE OUR
PRESENTATION DOWN TO WHAT’S CONVENIENT, BUT RATHER WE MUST RAISE IT TO
THAT WHICH IS EXPLOSIVE!
Get ready for major change that’s coming systematically, intellectually, purposefully, and
professionally. Nothing we do moving forward will be done haphazardly, sloppily, poorly,
or carnally.
We Are the LIGHT!
Sincerely,
Pastor J.E. Chandler, Sr.
