Title: ““Be HISstory!”
Men’s professional basketball season is over and whether you’re a fan of the sport or not,
it’s hard to imagine that you haven’t already heard about what happened last night for
diehard fans and for the state of Ohio. It’s been fifty-two years since any Ohio professional
sports team won a championship and last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers defied the odds
and brought home the long awaited crown. They were also the first team, since the NBA
was birthed, to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the championship round, and end up
winning it all. The bottom line…HISTORY was made in the sporting world.
I was listening to the post-game interviews and was impressed by one of the Cleveland
players who, when asked what he was thinking about just before the game began,
responded by saying, “Tonight, if I do my job to the best of my ability and not focus on
what anyone else is doing or not doing…I can be history.” That stuck with me because as
believers, we each have been given something special from the Lord that if used right can
greatly and positively affect the advancement of the Kingdom.
It’s not wise to spend quality time concerned and even consumed with what others are
doing or failing to do in the Body of Christ. It takes to much energy to intensely scrutinize
the input other disciples offer to the work of the Lord. I’m often disappointed when I hear
that a believer is overly critical about another member in the body of Christ because the
job they’ve been given to do by the Lord is not, in their minds, equal to what the
complainer’s doing.
The ball player who was being interviewed also said that it’s not his job to score points or
prevent opponents from scoring, but rather to get the rebounds from shots that are missed.
He knows his stats will never be reported as special or game changing, but his coach truly
values what he does because it significantly helps them win games.
What you offer to the Kingdom is different than what others give, but because it’s different,
it doesn’t make it more or less important. The focus today should simply be on making
sure that you’re doing YOUR best in representing God well and that you steer as many
people toward Christ as you can. Your strength may lie in what you say or it may reside in
what you don’t say. Today may be the day that a transformation is made in the life of
someone you witness to about the goodness of the Lord. We never know how long a
person’s been waiting for our specific light to shine in their lives and brighten their world,
but I promise you one thing…if you do your job and lift up the name of Jesus with vigor
and purpose, you’ll make history. Making history is good and it starts by making HISstory
more important than your own! Spread the gospel and “Be HISstory!”
EVERYTHING WE DO MOVING FORWARD WILL BE INTENTIONAL AND DRIVEN WITH
PURPOSE TO REPRESENT THE KINGDOM OF GOD IN THE BEST POSSIBLE LIGHT!
NOTHING WILL BE DONE WITH ENERGY LESS THAN OUR BEST AND EFFORT BELOW
OUR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL.
OUR SERVICE IS LOCAL, BUT OUR REACH IS GLOBAL – SO WE CANNOT REDUCE OUR
PRESENTATION DOWN TO WHAT’S CONVENIENT, BUT RATHER WE MUST RAISE IT TO
THAT WHICH IS EXPLOSIVE!
Get ready for major change that’s coming systematically, intellectually, purposefully, and
professionally. Nothing we do moving forward will be done haphazardly, sloppily, poorly,
or carnally.
We Are the LIGHT!
Sincerely,
Pastor J.E. Chandler, Sr.
